Main steps of designing a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for METROFOOD-RI

Below you can find attached a very interesting research study, given the methodology of building a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), in a research infrastructure, such as METROFOOD-RI, which promotes metrology in food and nutrition focused on measurement research related to agrifood systems.

This report describes the process of topic identification and prioritization, based on valid data, that took place within the METROFOOD-RI SRIA as well as the challenges that were faced. Future SRIA subjects were chosen using a dual-track technique that combines a top-down and bottom-up approach, followed by in-depth discussions with METROFOOD-RI experts. The METROFOOD-RI Management Committee voted on the topic prioritization using a specially created numerical rating scale questionnaire. Appropriate criteria were provided for categorizing specific issues into high, medium, low, and very low priority ones based on the maximum scores attained for each topic. Potential SRIA candidates were identified in a total of 80 topics divided into eight significant groups of issues. Following prioritization, the newly established SRIA’s core research subject areas included 16 topics with a medium priority and 9 topics with a very high priority.
